Problem

The disparities between the gender and age gap among men and women is a problem that America faces everyday, but people aren’t talking about it very much or we seem to assume their isn’t a problem and everything is fine, but it’s not.

In this graph, we can see at what age can we assume men and women will earn the most money as a Hollywood celebrity in comparison to folks working in the workforce.

Challenges

This was a very difficult assignment to understand and comprehend data while implementing two similar issues onto one single chart. Since we don't have access to data research, it was very difficult to find data on some topics and I had to constantly change it. I also had a hard time finding some of the celebrities income for the fiscal year.

Design Approach

I decided to create an ascending chart of male and female who earn different salary income based on different gender and age. Through the chart you can see that female celebrities income declines as they age while male celebrities income rises. I added oscar awards and nominations to see if it makes a difference, but it doesn’t do very much.

On the other chart, we see a slightly different result for females in the workforce who experience a slight increase in wage as they age, but not by much.

What I learned

A young female actress like Jennifer Lawrence, gets paid more when they're younger until they reach roughly about age 42 while actors like Leonardo Dicaprio earns more beginning at age 42 .

In the workforce, women earn typically less than men when they're young while men's income slightly decrease as they age 65+.  It's very fascinating to compare the two charts and see how gender gap between men and women is very similar.

After doing my research on gender gap, it opened a whole new perspective and insight for me. I am working at a startup that is trying to include diversity and inclusion for women and minorities in tech.

I am becoming more of a self-advocate leader in voicing out my opinion as a female, so that our voices can be heard and become equal with our male counterparts.
